WP4.3: Quantifying and modeling ocean circulation
variability and impacts during warm climates
Chair: Helga F. Kleiven
Co-Chair: Rainer Gersonde
WP4.3 objectives
- To reconstruct ocean circulation and ventilation including the variability in individual constituents of the upper and lower limbs of THC (e.g. Nordic seas inflows and overflows, Labrador Sea Water, Agulhas leakage, Arctic exchanges) and determine their sensitivity to, and impact on, climate and polar ocean conditions (source region changes).
- To reconstruct AMO, thermocline variability, and tropical hydrology and use data-model comparisons to understand their coupling.
- To evaluate the (in)sensitivity of THC in models at times warmer than present and establish a dynamic understanding of THC-climate coupling through data-model and inter-model comparisons and data assimilation.
